117B-N 1948 Alberta Pool Elevator
Product Information
Designed from the 1948 Alberta Wheat Pool drawings, our kit is an accurate scale reproduction of the prototype. This model is larger than past and current models offerred by other manufacturers (please see the photo section for the dimensional plan). The kit includes the elevator with drive thru, office/engine room, walkway and storage shed.
“The Alberta Wheat Pool was a co-operative farmer's organization dedicated to marketing the wheat produced by its members. It began operations on October 29, 1923 as the Alberta Co-operative Wheat Producers Limited.”...“The Pool was formed to aid farmers by selling their grain at a competitive rate without wild price fluctuations. Previously, farmers were at the mercy of the line elevators and the Winnipeg Grain Exchange's rates, which could vary wildly.”...“The Pool's subsidiary Alberta Wheat Pool Elevators Limited formed on February 2, 1926 and took over the three elevators.”...“In 1927 the Pool bought 41 grain elevators at an average cost $10,140. ... During the same year the Pool planned to built 51 elevators.”
As the province grew and the volume of grain production increased, older small elevators were replaced with new larger capacity elevators. Many of the old elevators found their way onto farms for home storage. Coal/oil fired engines were replaced with electric motors and the outhouses contained in old storage sheds removed as modern convieniences such as washrooms with running water were added to the office buildings attached to the elevators. Our 1948 design kit represents one of these larger capacity elevators.
All parts to complete the kit are included; laser cut floors, walls, roof, trim, shingles, clapboard siding and chimneys. Stripwood for the interior framing as shown is also included. Many custom 3D printed parts are provided for the model (windows, doors, railings, grain loading spouts, scale grate, loading platform and vents). Our comprehensive manual with lots of photos will guide you step by step through construction. Several drawings and templates are provided to assist with construction.
Kits do NOT include paint or the adhesives required for assembly (see other pages in this website for paint and glue).
**Decals are sold seperately (see detail parts section) and are designed to fit our elevators. They may not fit smaller elevators made by other manufacturers. There are 2 time periods to choose from.
